The context of projects in Burundi

Previously I talked about what I was doing in Burundi talking about CAWST and the stages of clean water. I want to back up a bit and talk about Burundi for a bit in order to give you a context for the CAWST water filter project in Burundi and why it has to be cheap, [...]

Updating water ideas

Three years ago I wrote an blog based on my research around water and making it clean. Coming up in the next several days are a few follow ups on that idea, followed by my first solo attempt at building a cheap filter.

If you've been keeping up with me, I'm in Eastern Africa these [...]

Blowing the world cup

Comments   0   Date Arrow  July 11, 2010 at 7:37pm   User  by wonderfullyrich

I have to say the Netherlands screwed the cup, but that's not the blowing I was thinking about.  It's about 2:30am as I start writing this, and here is what I know.  At least 23 people probably closer to 50 people have died in what looks like 2 probably 3 bomb blasts of an unknown [...]

Burundians with mobile phones

Without going nuts and writing a dissertation like I normally seem to get into, I'm going to try and talk about one of the projects what I've been doing for the last several days. As I mentioned, I've got several going on while I'm here in Burundi, the primary of which is implementing a mobile [...]

I'm in Burundi again nearly a year after I  first arrived on the African continent.  I'll be here for about a month (till late June), working on a bunch of different things.  Primarily I'm here to help Healing and Rebuilding Our Communities (HROC) as a technical consultant for the Frontline SMS implementation they are using for [...]

Garmin and GPS

Comments   1   Date Arrow  December 11, 2009 at 8:32am   User  by wonderfullyrich

I’ve got two new pages that I just put up, they are my place for Open Street Maps and the Garmin image file that I compiled that works on many Garmin handheld GPS devices. Open Street Maps tells the story of why I’ve spent some time on this. The image file contains [...]

20 days, part 1

Comments   0   Date Arrow  May 27, 2009 at 5:37am   User  by wonderfullyrich

While Angela is working on her report I’ve got some down time to write an update, but no internet. Instead of waiting, I started writing several posts in Genisyi, Rwanda at Pastor Augustin’s house/compound. I’m on the road again for the next two days heading to Cape Town, but I’ve lined up the [...]

Leaving Burundi and a video

Comments   0   Date Arrow  May 18, 2009 at 4:57pm   User  by wonderfullyrich

I’ve been running around like a fabled chicken, but have managed to be somewhat productive. I just finished and posted a very rough, but hopefully effective tour of the FWA Clinic in Burundi. I helped them build a website last year, and when I came to visit this year I thought I’d help [...]

A friend I haven’t seen much says “You are leaving DC huh?”
“Yep, I’m headed for Burundi,” I say
“Bur-un-di huh? Where is that?” they say.
“Don’t feel bad, I didn’t know about it more then a years ago myself. It’s a heart shaped country in the African Great Lakes region of Eastern Africa. Heart shaped [...]

Arrived safely.

I’m in Bujumbura with my brother and ready for bed. Didn’t sleep much on the planes 17 or so hours of flying (3 flights), but I have to give props to Schiphol International Airport (Amsterdam) as they make it international traveler friendly. They have lounge chairs specifically designed for layover sleeping, as well [...]
