Special thanks to my mother for the greatest birthday present ever!

I need a bit of feedback on some photos I’m submitting to the DCist Exposed 2008 Photography Show as I have more then the allowed number to enter. Three photos are allowed, but I’ve chosen 11 from the DC area that meet my high standards.
If you have the time, can you [...]

Apparently the Alaska National Guard actually did fly a C-130 with presents to Kotlik not to long after I left. I heard they were considering it from Elise, but didn’t give it much thought till my Mom said they showed it on Channel 9 back in Denver.

I’m back in DC! Actually I’ve been back for 3 days now, but I’ve been catching up and managed to get hit hard by yet another sinus infection. The flight home was a bit questionable for a while, but it all worked out. Apparently I didn’t actually reserve my return for [...]

I just walked back from a mini-potlatch (similar to a pow-pow or multi-family gathering) at the community center and am digesting thanksgiving dinner from several hours ago while mulling thoughts of this native alaskan town during this day of thanks. The food was wonderful, we managed ham, turkey, glazed carrots, sweet potato casserole, coffee [...]

A first impressions of Kotlik

I’ve arrived in Kotlik, the asshole of the world as some joke. Kotlik in Yupik means pants, because two rivers fork in a way that looks like pants and the town is right where the asshole would be.
Unfortunately they are also getting the asshole end of the bargin for many reasons. The [...]

How to spend the night in Anchorage

Comments   0   Date Arrow  November 16, 2007 at 7:51pm   User  by wonderfullyrich

So my couchsurfer that I set up didn’t come through when I got to Anchorage, no biggy, just changes plans.  The town is empty from tourists so finding a hostel wasn’t hard, and it wasn’t ridiculously expensive.  The catch is that it’s  a bunk room so other people are there and they have a curfew [...]
