So I’ve been harping on the difference between what you guys see the sun do in the states verse what we see here at McMurdo and I’ve been having a hard time of trying to figure out how to best describe it. I have struck upon a way to show you however, take a […]

I spent yesterday being sick to the stomach and therefore sleeping, laying around, drinking ginger tea, and generally taking it easy. I do feel better today, I’ve managed to eat some ramen yesterday as well as bits of leftover turkey from thanksgiving. I’ll be taking it easy and hopefully it’ll be better today. Needless to […]

First off, the weather today is a perfect example of why the wind makes all the difference. It’s an ambient +19F but we have a 15-25 Knot wind that’s been blowing through, it’s a cold -9F outside with cloudy skies. We are definitely wearing big red today.

Somewhere between the constant sun, the lively and interesting people down here, the nights that are never really nights, or perhaps the unique and constantly challenging environment we live in, I’ve really grown attached to this place. Obviously it’s an early love having only had 5 weeks to mature so far, but if not for […]

Is to freeze on permanent sea ice. Well not really freeze. Actually most of the time I was perfectly toasty. For those of you who don’t quite remember, Happy Camper (actually called Snowcraft I) is a two day survival school for people who might need it here on the Ice. So […]

As I have spend a few weeks here now–I’m 25 percent done with my station tour–I wanted to comment on the weather down here. I’ve had lots of questions about what the weather is like down here. Here’s a few: Does it snow? For those of you in a tropical climate, how long does it […]

This is just a follow up to my announcement two weeks ago. I finally got the video converted and uploaded to the website (http://www.wonderfullyrich.net/Photos/theice/60southvideos.html), so now you can see the whole incident yourself. Look for the link to "I CAUGHT A FISH!!!" It’s a fairly small video at 10mb so it should take to long […]
